Kelsea Ballerini surprised fans at her Rosemont, Illinois concert at Rosemont Theatre with a very special guest: Carly Pearce.
On Saturday evening (Oct 1), Ballerini, who is in the midst of her 10-city Heartfirst Tour, brought out her longtime friend for a special performance of “You’re Drunk, Go Home,” a collaboration that originally features Ballerini, Pearce and Kelly Clarkson.
“Now y’all, I did say I love this city and I have to do something to make it a little bit extra special for you tonight…” Ballerini teased before welcoming Pearce to the stage. “Give it up for Carly Pearce!”
In a clip shared by a Carly Pearce fanpage, Ballerini is seen introducing Pearce to the stage before they delivered a sassy performance together of the fan-favorite tune. Surrounded by Ballerini’s impressive tour production, the pair effortlessly belted out the lyrics to the ‘90s country-inspired anthem.
Following their performance, and after a wine-inducing celebration backstage together, Pearce took to social media to share photos with fans.
“What did I do on my first Saturday off in months? Run to @kelseaballerini,” Pearce wrote with a heart-eyed emoji alongside the hashtag #youredrunkgohome.
Pearce also shared a clip of Ballerini’s performance of “Universe” in her Instagram stories, which she captioned, “the worst video quality ever but I’m the most proud friend.”
“You’re Drunk, Go Home” appears on Ballerini’s just-released new album, Subject To Change. Ballerini co-wrote the boozy anthem with Shane McAnally and Julian Bunetta.
“You’re drunk, go home / If you’re trying to hook up / Gotta do it alone / The way you’re slurring and the way you stumble / Ain’t no way you’re gonna get my number / Hey, walk away, so me and my girls can do our thing / I ain’t looking for a one-night rodeo / You’re drunk, go home,” they sing in the chorus.
Ballerini recently made an appearance on The Kelly Clarkson Show where Clarkson confessed the hilarious story behind recording her vocals for the song.
“I can’t actually tell that full story on TV, but it’s quite funny, that recording day for me,” Clarkson teased.
“I asked Kelly to be a part of my song in the morning and she went to the studio that night and did vocals,” Ballerini added.
Without giving away too much, Clarkson went on to reveal that she had been “celebrating” her last day of work before Ballerini texted her the song.
“So I get to the studio, here, at this studio with Jason and I get in there and I’m like, ‘look, I didn’t know I was gonna be singing today.’ So I had to sing a song called, ‘You’re Drunk, Go Home,’ inebriated, trying to sing for soprano parts like I’m fine,” she said.
After admitting that the recording session consisted of her “crying and laughing so hard, I almost peed my pants,” Clarkson shared, “This has never happened to me. In 20 years, I’ve never been inebriated while singing something, and I am while singing ‘You’re Drunk, Go Home.’”
Ballerini’s Heartfirst Tour continues through October 14, where the trek will wrap up in Mashantucket, CT at Premier Theater inside Foxwoods Resort Casino.
Pearce recently returned home from a sold-out headlining trek overseas. The “What He Didn’t Do” singer has a number of headlining shows, including two nights at Nashville’s famed Ryman Auditorium, planned through the end of the year.
