The Artists That Should Have Been Grammy Nominated

The Grammy nominations came out yesterday and was the topic of the day. Of course, the prestigious awards show nominations were met with backlash. Best Rap Performance, Best Rap Song, and Best Rap Album are categories that are always controversial. And that didn’t stop this year. Many people believe other artists need to be recognized and I agree. Here’s who I think should be nominated for a Grammy.

Grammys: Best Rap Performance

Here’s who the Academy selected for Best Rap Performance:

“God Did”-DJ Khaled featuring Rick Ross, Lil Wayne, Jay-Z, John Legend, and Fridayy

“Pushin P”-Gunna featuring Future & Young Thug

“F.N.F. (Let’s Go)”-Glorilla & Hitkidd

“The Heart Part 5”-Kendrick Lamar

Let’s get things straight first.  Best Rap Performance and Best Rap Song may sound like the same thing, but they are a bit different.  The award for Best Rap Performance goes to the artist, songwriter, and producer of the winning song.  Best rap song is awarded to just the songwriter.  Here’s who should have been nominated:

“Silent Hill” Kendrick Lamar featuring Kodak Black

“Johnny P’s Caddy”-Benny the Butcher featuring J.Cole

City of Gods”-Fivio Foreign featuring Alicia Keys & Ye

“Wait for U”-Future featuring Drake and Tems

Best rap performance equals the best sounding rap song in my opinion.  The artist, songwriter(s), and producer(s) must make the song musical.  I believe the four songs above are the best musical rap songs that came out this year.   The production on these songs along with the lyrics are all top tiers.  There were other songs that were deserving as well.  For instance, “God Did”, “Pushin P”, and “The Heart Part 5” are all great songs and the Grammys weren’t completely off.  The three songs below are songs that deserve an honorable mention (at least) for best rap performance.

“Sunshine”-Latto featuring Childish Gambino & Lil Wayne

“Neck & Wrist”-Pusha T featuring Jay-Z & Pharrell Williams

Grammys: Best Rap Song

Churchill Downs”-Jack Harlow featuring Drake

God Did”-DJ Khaled featuring Rick Ross, Lil Wayne, Jay-Z, John Legend, and Fridayy

The Heart Part 5”-Kendrick Lamar

Pushin P”-Gunna featuring Future & Young Thug

Wait for U”-Future featuring Drake and Tems

Who should’ve been nominated:

“Super Gremlin”- Kodak Black

“London”- BIA ft. J.Cole

“F.N.F. (Let’s Go)”- Glorilla & Hitkidd

“Hot Shit”- Cardi B featuring Lil Durk & Ye

“N95”- Kendrick Lamar

First things first, let’s give it up to the women in hip hop for a great year!  Some of 2022’s biggest hits this year were from women. We hope this trend continues.  The Academy voted for good songs, but I’m not sure if they are the right ones.  Also, there’s too many great rap songs to have one song in both categories.  I don’t believe “God Did”, “Pushin P”, and “The Heart Part 5” should be in both categories, no matter how good the songs are. These five songs are very good rap songs and not to mention were very popular throughout the year. The two songs below are songs that deserve an honorable mention (at least) for best rap song this year.

“In A Minute”- Lil Baby

“Sleazy Flow (Remix)”- SleazyWorld Go ft. Lil Baby

Grammys: Best Rap Album

“God Did”- DJ Khaled

“I NEVER LIKED YOU”- Future

“Come Home The Kids Miss You”- Jack Harlow

“Mr. Morale & The Big Steppers”- Kendrick Lamar

“It’s Almost Dry”- Pusha T

Who should’ve been nominated:

“CM10: Free Game”- Yo Gotti

“Back For Everything”- Kodak Black

“It’s Almost Dry”- Pusha T

“Mr. Morale & The Big Steppers”- Kendrick Lamar

“The Forever Story”- J.I.D.

The Best Rap Album category is always the most talked about.  Many people have different opinions on who has the best rap album.  One thing people do agree with is that Jack Harlow’s album should not be up for discussion.  Social media has disapproved the Academy’s choice with so many great rap albums that have been released this year.  I agree with the Academy for nominating Pusha T and Kendrick Lamar’s album, but I believe Yo Gotti, Kodak Black, and J.I.D. deserve recognition for well-put together albums.  The two albums below are albums that deserve an honorable mention (at least) for best rap album.

“It’s Only Me”- Lil Baby

“King’s Disease III”- Nas & Hit-Boy

The Academy wasn’t all that terrible like they usually are, but they could always do things differently.  Let’s try to celebrate multiple artists as they all deserve recognition for their hard work.  Anyways, let the best man or woman win.  Good luck to all the artists who received nominations!
