Welcome to our first New Music Friday edition of 2023. This week, the pickings are light, with strong themes. They include a heartfelt tribute to late Takeoff by Quavo, and NBA YoungBoy’s latest album.
NBA YoungBoy churns out music pretty fast, pushed by the motto to “Never Broke Again.” With that ethos, he is among the first few to drop an album in 2023.
The “Put It On Me” rapper dropped his latest album, I Rest My Case, today. In light of the recent Tory Lanez assault trial that just ended, this title rings different.
Death is final for the deceased but eternal for those left behind. It is so for those who knew and loved the late Takeoff, especially his uncle and constant collaborator, Quavo.
The former Migo dropped “Without You” as a tribute to Takeoff. In it, he lamented the loss, how hard it has been coping with it, and more that comes with grief.
When Drake is not gearing up for his 2023 tour or appearing to be chasing clout, he is in the studio putting his voice to music.
Listen to this feature on Pop Caan’s latest song, “We Caa Done.”
Meanwhile, Bobby Shmurda shared a snippet of his soon-to-be-released song. The snippet is alleged to be directed at Gucci. It discusses taking plea deals and snitches. If anybody knows about plea deals and whatnots, it is Shmurda, who himself had a stint behind bars.
Don’t forget to check out our coverage of the Tory Lanez trial. From jury selection, Megan the Stallion’s appearance, and Kelsey Nicole’s testimony. Happy new year, SOHH family.
