Ozzy Osbourne Taylor Hawkins

In a new interview with Stereogum, Ozzy Osbourne spoke about his new album Patient Number 9, which features several rock stars, including Taylor Hawkins, the FOO FIGHTERS drummer who passed away earlier this year.

On how the idea of inviting Hawkins to the album came about, he said: My producer Andrew Watt, he was a really good friend of his. I wasn’t even aware that Dave Grohl had a drummer, because Dave Grohl was a drummer himself. I knew he sang up front, but I didn’t know that much about FOO FIGHTERS at the time. I knew of them. I went down to the studio one day, and Taylor was there, and he was a really nice guy. He was a cheerful kind of a guy, you know. And I spent a few hours with him. I didn’t get to know him that well, but from those few hours, he seemed like a really nice guy.

Hawkins was found dead on March 25 at the Four Seasons Casa Medina hotel in Bogota, Colombia while FOO FIGHTERS were on tour.

An official cause of death for Hawkins hasn’t yet been released, but Colombia’s attorney general’s office released a preliminary toxicology report, saying that medical examiners found evidence of 10 types of substances in Hawkins‘s body, including opioids, benzodiazepines, marij*ana and antidepressants.
