Alexis Durham is a very talented singer and songwriter, she is also known as A. Lexx and she is a Georgia native that loves music! A.Lexx has been writing music since she was a little kid and plans to take it further for her career in music industry.
Lisa: Hi Alexis! What first got you into music? What did you wanted to become when you were a child?
As a child, I used to want to be a doctor, then a fashion designer and then I didn’t have a clue. Around the age of 12, I started to write my own lyrics. I would come up with melodies in my head and write whatever I felt in my journal. It wasn’t until in my late teenage years that I decided to release music on platforms like Soundcloud and Apple music.
Lisa: How do you describe your music to people?
I describe my music as songs that consist of emotions that I would NEVER bring up in an everyday conversation. Of course everyone has their own interpretation when they hear a song, but I knew deep down what my lyrics meant.
Lisa: What is your creative process like?
My creative process is unorganized. I could be eating breakfast and thinking about lyrics. I will write those lyrics down in my notes, then listen to my beat that I planned to use and keep writing. I could finish a song as little as a few hours or as long as a few days. It depends on how inspired I am.
Lisa: I love your song “For You”? Can you tell me a bit more about it? What is it about, and what inspired you to write it?
For You is about a mild heartbreak. I believe you can get your heartbroken without being in a relationship. This goes for friendships or those other relationships that have no title. My heart hasn’t been treated fairly and my last encounter had inspired the lyrics. In the song I said, “Tired of spending all of my feelings on you” and “but I do this to myself and I’d do it all for you.” It meant that when I like someone, they can do no wrong in my eyes until it blows up in my face. Thus, making it a cycle that I never listen to my gut because I simply do not want the truth.
Lisa: You say you always felt you have your own story to tell. What do you feel when you write your own song, in comparison to the lyrics that are provided by your directors?
No one has ever written a song for me. So when I write music, I feel a sense of relief because my true feelings about love, life and etcetera are being told through my experiences.
Lisa: What would you be doing right now, if it wasn’t for your music career?
If it wasn’t for my music career, I would be in the house wishing I had taken the chance to follow my music career. I stopped listening to other people’s advice and kept going.
Lisa: Which famous musicians do you admire, and would like to work with?
I admire a great deal of musicians. I would like to work with Bryson Tiller, Summer Walker, Asian Doll, Chris Brown, Travis Scott and YNW Melly.
Lisa: Are you planning to collaborate with any other artist?
As of right now, I am not planning to collaborate with any other artists. Maybe in the near future when I find someone.
Lisa: What is the best advice you’ve been given?
The best advice that I’ve been given was to not worry about what other people think. You cannot please everyone because it will drive you crazy.
Lisa: What’s next for Alexis?
What’s next for me? Only God knows that answer.
