MC Fats, Legendary Drum & Bass Vocalist, Has Died

MC Fats was revered for his seminal work in the formative scenes of jungle and drum & bass.

MC Fats, a pioneering figure in the drum & bass and jungle scenes, has passed away.

Beloved for his stentorian voice, Fats worked with a slew of electronic music greats, including Chase & Status, Pendulum and Andy C. He featured on many influential tracks, but perhaps most notably DJ Hype’s transformative 1996 hit “Peace Love & Unity.”

Fats’ cause of death has not been made public, but previous reports suggest he was suffering from poor health. In 2013, he underwent a few surgical procedures, including a partial leg amputation. He also struggled with diabetes, per NME.

Fats’ final track dropped in November 2022, when he released “Natural Way” with Break, who said his “voice and style on the mic were like no other” in a tribute shared to social media.

A deluge of tributes from fans, friends and supporters have poured in, with many sharing fond memories of the late MC.

“We are heartbroken to hear about the passing of MC Fats,” tweeted RAM Records. “He was a legend of DNB and a dear member of our family from the very beginning.”

In 2018, Fats underwent major heart surgery in Sardinia. A fundraiser was launched at the time to help with medical expenses, ultimately raising more than £10,000.

We at send our sincerest condolences to MC Fats’ family, friends and loved ones during this difficult time.
