LISTEN: Walker Hayes Releases 'Face In The Crowd,' A New Song Inspired By His Wife Laney

Walker Hayes is proving once again that his wife, Laney, is his ultimate muse.

In his new heartfelt song, “Face In The Crowd,” Hayes makes it clear that even through all the success he’s had in this year, the most important thing to him is still seeing his other half rooting him on from the side of the stage.

Walker Hayes – Face In the Crowd

Written by Hayes alongside Emily Falvey and Tofer Brown, and produced by Hayes with Joe Thibodeau, this song has already worked its way into Hayes’ set during his pre-show hangout on his Glad You’re Here arena tour. Fans quickly took a liking to the new track and immediately began asking when they could get their hands on it.

“When my 15 minutes ends / and the world loves me a little less / I hope you know that you’re the only one / I was trying to impress / if I sold out Bryant-Denny / made my sweet home so proud / all I ever cared about, all I ever cared about was your face in the crowd,” he sings in the chorus.

The mid-tempo love song assembles Hayes’ passionate vocals and sincere message as he shows his gratitude towards the mother of his six children.

This is nowhere near the first time Hayes has shown Laney as the muse of his work. He’s also sung about taking her out for a date night at Applebee’s in “Fancy Like,” and trying to keep her from figuring out that he married up and she married down in “AA.”

Laney isn’t the only one who’s rooting Hayes on from the crowd. He has also revealed that his whole family is in on the fun.  In a recent Instagram post, Hayes shared a photo that represents what life on the road really looks like for him.

“6 kids, 3 dogs, 2 parents, 1 bunk,” he wrote.

The singer/songwriter grew up in Mobile, Alabama and first met Laney while in elementary school, but sparks didn’t start flying between them until high school after they starred in a play together. Their first date was such a success that the couple continued to see each other for about seven years before hitting a rough patch in college.

As of June of this year, they can officially say they have been married for 18 years.

“Face In The Crowd” comes at the end of a breakthrough year for the viral sensation who earned a GRAMMY nomination, six Billboard Music Awards nominations, five ACM Awards nominations, a CMT Awards nomination and a CMA nomination and his first No. 1 at Country radio. This success comes nearly 20 years after he started making music in this town. Yet at the end of the day, Hayes knows that the most important thing in his life is his family.

“I can’t say how grateful I am for the last year of my life. It changed a lot for me and my family, but at the end of the day, money doesn’t fix anything,” Hayes shared in a recent release. “We’ve been doing this a long time, and we were happy when we were poor, too. We’re just lucky to have each other, and that’s really all that matters.”

His latest release follows his current single, “Y’all Life,” which is climbing the chart at country radio. These tracks, plus his breakthrough hit “Fancy Like” and his fan favorite “AA” have made Hayes one of the top streaming artists in country music.

Walker Hayes kicked off his headlining trek in Johnstown, PA on September 29, and has a total of 15 cities on the books with special guest Parmalee. Their next stop is slated for Friday (Nov. 11) in Portland, OR.
