Lindsay Ell Shares That She Is 'Officially An American' In Celebratory Post

Country star Lindsay Ell is celebrating her latest non-musical feat. She took to social media on Thursday (Dec. 8) to announce that she has completed the paperwork and confirmed her dual citizen status in America and Canada.

She wrote, “I AM OFFICIALLY AN AMERICAN. 🇺🇸  Earlier this year on the road when I passed my citizenship test, @littlebigtown threw me an American party. Here’s to the sweetest people in country music for making me feel so welcome on the road and in this country. ❤️”

In her post, she also shared a few photos from the party with Little Big Town, which consisted of a cake and of course, red, white & blue decorations to match the theme.

“Fast forward to today when I just got the paperwork and it is officially official,” she continued. “The past 11 years have been quite the journey. So many blood, sweat, and tears relocating to a place where I knew no one to start building a life. Funny that to the day, I signed my record deal 10 years ago. Let this be a reminder that you can do WHATEVER you want to in life if you want it badly enough. I am now proud to be a dual citizen. 🇺🇸 🇨🇦”

Many artists and members of the country music community have taken to the comment section to congratulate the Canadian-born singer/songwriter including Cassadee Pope, Maren Morris, Brittney Spencer, and more.

HARDY’s wife Caleigh wrote, “IM GONNA CRY THIS IS SO AMAZING!!!!!! Congratulations!!!” while Morris said, “Aw, congratulations! 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼.”

Ell grew up in Calgary where her deep musical roots were first planted. She fell in love with music at an early age when she learned to play the piano and guitar. Then, at 13 years old, she was discovered by BTO and The Guess Who’s Randy Bachman. In working with Bachman, Ell got the chance to explore many different spaces of music like blues, jazz and rock guitar.

While she had a budding career in Canada, Nashville soon turned into her home after a successful songwriting trip gave her the motivation to make a move to the U.S.

Since making the official move to Nashville, the “Right On Time” singer has built an impressive catalog of songs and has toured with some of the biggest names in country music. Soon, Lindsay Ell will hit the road as a special guest on Shania Twain’s extended headlining trek. The Queen of Me Tour will kick off on April 28 and run through November 14 with stops in both the U.S. and Canada.

“Is this the real life?! I am still shook…getting to open for your hero is one thing, but getting to go on tour with her is a whole other level!! I am honored and truly SO excited to tour with you, @shaniatwain,” Ell said as she announced the news on social media. “Thank you for believing in me, thank you for taking a stand for everything you do and thank you for being the queen that so many women look up to in this world. Bring it on #QueenOfMeTour!”

Lindsay Ell will return as host of Canada’s Got Talent in the new year.
