Regarding Metallica‘s hated song by James Hetfield. A few weeks ago, we also reveal which Metallica song is James Hetfield‘s favorite.

What is James Hetfield’s hated Metallica song?

‘Escape’ was a song that was during “Ride the Lightning” album and that James had never liked. And with good reason. Until their label requested them to put together a song that may have legs as a single, the band believed they had enough songs for the album’s initial track listing. This Metallica song was composed during one of the band’s final days in the studio.

James Hetfield talked in an interview with Sopitas and reveal which Metallica song most hated by him:

“Was the first time we wrote a song in the studio. I remember we had all the songs and Lars said, ‘They want us to record one more, they need one more for the album.’ I was like, ‘You didn’t tell me that…’ So we had to write and it was really last minute. So ‘Escape’ was one of those songs that was written in the studio.

Do you know what song is next? Don’t say it out loud, please! This is groundbreaking right here, this is historical, for those of you who might know what’s coming up next. The song that we never wanted to play live, ever. It is now on the setlist. We are [Metallica] not afraid, we’re just hoping it’s good. We will do our best.”

Metallica’s second studio album, Ride the Lightning, was released on July 27, 1984 via Megaforce Records. The album was created in three weeks at Copenhagen, Denmark’s Sweet Silence Studios with producer Flemming Rasmussen. Based on an idea by the band, the artwork shows lightning striking an electric chair as it emanates from the band’s emblem. A character in Stephen King’s book The Stand, from which the title was borrowed uses the term “execution via electric chair”.

However, the critics answered well to “Ride the Lightning,” praising it as a more ambitious attempt than its predecessor. During the European leg of the Bang That Head That Doesn’t Bang tour in late 1984 and the North American leg in the first half of 1985, Metallica marketed the album. Later that year, the band played at important music festivals such Monsters of Rock and Day on the Green.

Elektra Records republished the album two months after it was first released and signed Metallica to a multi-year contract. With almost little radio play, Ride the Lightning reached its highest point on the Billboard 200 at number 100.
