Silas Botwin is an 18 year old guy from Verona (Italy).  He started in 2015 playing with dj consoles and after got into music production.  2020 is his first year releasing music for a wider range of people.

My latest song “Beast Mode” is very special for me because I’ve put a lot of time and effort in it and it’s the best, sound wise, between all of my songs.

Lisa: Hi Silas! What is the music scene in Verona (Italy) like for upcoming artists?

Silas Botwin : Right now in Italy, like much of the world nowadays, we have a lot of problems with this virus and we, music producers and DJs, have felt it like a rock because discos and festivals have been closed since March 2020 plus in Italy we already have really big names such as Angemi, Rudeejay, Gigi D’Agostino and many others and for me it’s being very difficult to stand out in a Country this little yet so full of talents but I’m trying my best.

Lisa: How would you describe the music that you typically create?

Silas Botwin : I have a cool story for this question actually. A couple of days ago, a producer friend of mine sent me a message. In that message he asked me the same thing and I answered: “Good question! I don’t know either ahah” so this could sum it up but I’ll try to explain something more to you.

The music that I create is basically influenced by a lot of things in the background, that’s why I do a lot of different genres. Before I started doing music I used to listen to Metal, Djent, Hard Rock and all that strong stuff so I assume that my Dubstep songs came out thanks to that. Then my Future House tracks come out thanks to Jay Eskar that is my biggest inspiration and my favourite producer.

Lisa: What types of change do you feel your music can initiate?

Silas Botwin : To be honest I don’t know if my music can make a change in something, I don’t make music to leave something behind me, I make music because I love it, I love playing it, listening to it and making it so you could say that “I make music for myself” or at least it was until my fanbase started growing and I realized that this could become something big someday.

Lisa: Do you tend to follow any pre-defined patterns when composing a song?

Silas Botwin : No I don’t. I like to start a song with something random like a cool sound found on the internet and then work around it. I don’t even choose the genre before, it comes out after.

Lisa: You’re latest single “Beast Mode” is awesome. What inspired you to write it?

Silas Botwin : Well, thanks a lot, I’m really glad that you liked it. As I said before, I found that cool vocal sample randomly and started working on it. The cool/annoying thing about this song is that I started it like 5 months ago, I finished it in like two months but then I couldn’t master it as I wanted it and it was a literal hell because I spent three entire months mastering it leaving behind everything else but I’m glad that I’ve done it because now I can see the results of that hard work.

Lisa: What is the most useless talent you have?

Silas Botwin : This is a really funny question and I don’t know how to answer it. Maybe I can say to you that I’m the king of the procrastinators, but when I say that it’s not like an “I don’t want to go to the supermarket, I’ll go tomorrow” kinda thing. I’m like I don’t want to go to the supermarket, I’ll starve, I don’t know if I’m explaining myself well. I’d say that’s pretty useless and I’m working on it.

Lisa: What do you think about music videos, are you planning on releasing.? If you had an unlimited budget and your schedule was free, what would your dream music video look like? Or do you think that budget nowadays is not that important?

Silas Botwin : I think that nowadays, unless you are a superstar that goes on tv, a musical video is pretty useless. I think that, for the music industry, YouTube is slowly dying; I have like 1/10000 of views on YT comparing them with my Spotify streams and using a lot of money to make a musical video and make like 300 views from it. It’s a big no from me.

Lisa: You say that new songs are coming. What can we expect?

Silas Botwin : This is the best question! You are not ready for what ‘s coming! I have a collaboration with a singer coming in early 2021 and that song it’s very different from the others but I think it’s gonna be the one that pops out the most. Then I’m starting a collaboration with a very talented Latvian Rapper but I can’t say much about that and this Tuesday I’ll have a meeting with another Rapper and maybe we could start something cool. Stay tuned!

Lisa: If you could change anything about the industry, what would it be?

Silas Botwin : The music industry is good enough for me, I’ll only change the revenue from the songs, it’s a bit too low, and I wish that playing for festivals was easier because that’s one of my biggest dreams.

At the end of the day, what do you hope people take away from your music?

Silas Botwin : I want people to dance, jump, take relief, cry, anything really listening to my songs. The important thing is that I’ve left in that person something to be remembered for.

Thank you!
