"I Wanna Dance with Somebody" By Whitney

In the 1980s, the popularity of pop was highlighted by one of the most talented music artists ever to grace a stage, Whitney Houston. Her powerhouse performances were unrivaled. Of course, she belted many songs, winning hearts in the process. But one of her most memorable singles was “I Wanna Dance with Somebody.” Now some 35 years later, we continue to celebrate Houston’s legacy.

“I Wanna Dance with Somebody:” The Biopic

No one can deny Whitney Houston had “je ne sais quois.” She embodied the perfect amalgamation of beauty, talent, and unparalleled magnetism. Houston was the epitome of a star. And there has not been one who could rival her since. When someone has such a powerful impact on fans and the industry, their legacy is infinite. And as a result, people continue to tell their stories. Some commemorate their accomplishments, while others take us deeper, exposing everything that went into cultivating that special someone.

The upcoming biopic, “I Wanna Dance with Somebody,” set to premiere two days before Christmas, is the newest account of the songstress’s life. However, this time, the camera points in a different direction. According to Movieweb, “The movie will chart her rise from a singer with The Sweet Temptations, to a fashion icon, to an international voice for women.”

“I Wanna Dance With Somebody:” The Single

The song “I Wanna Dance With Somebody” was released on Houston’s second album. The year was 1987. Interestingly the single didn’t go straight to the top. But when it did, according to the Hollywood Reporter, it stayed at number one for two weeks and remained in the top ten for nine weeks on Billboard Hot 100.

Video Darling; The Making Of “I Wanna Dance With Somebody”

A director who formerly worked with the star rejoined her again to produce a video to accompany the single. Brian Grant had nothing but flowers for the artist. He recalled how mesmerized he was by both Houston’s visage and voice. Grant recollects feeling that Whitney was one of the most beautiful women he had ever seen, and in his words, “Her voice was absolutely amazing.”

True Talent Is Timeless

The hit single was so successful that it reportedly sold 4.2 million copies. And even after Whitney’s death, the song again climbed the charts. The beauty of her talent was unbounded by time, and her music again soared. Both “I Wanna Dance with Somebody” and her single “I Will Always Love You” became top 40 hits posthumously.
