Composed during a tender time, “Charmer” is a testament not only to Godlands’ ability to transcend emotional turmoil, but also to evolve creatively.

“’Charmer’ was made as a trauma response,” Godlands explained in a press statement shared with . “I had just finished celebrating my birthday in Bali with a group of friends and my mum. We were just about to get on the airplane home before my mum collapsed in the airport.”

“I took her straight to hospital and it turned out she had a parasite and COVID,” she continued. “My mum and I had to spend a week longer in Bali while she recovered. This song was made while she was recovering, and I believe I made this just to express my feelings. It was an extremely stressful and emotionally-charged week seeing my mum go through such immense pain and seeing her so sick.”
