Gene Simmons states it’s almost impossible to make it if you’re over 30 years old in music except for rap

KISS co-founder and bassist Gene Simmons was at a Money Bags Soda release party in Poland on June 20, 2023. Nasty Ratz frontman Jake Widow attended the event and took the opportunity to present Simmons with Nasty Ratz‘s yet to be released third studio album. According to Ratz, Simmons is now the only person in the world along with the album’s producer (Martin Sweet of Crashdïet) to have a complete copy of the album with the cover, credits, etc.
When provided with Nasty Ratz‘s unreleased third album, Simmons stated (as transcribed by Sleaze Roxx): “So I’m going to tell you the truth. The truth is not a happy truth, but it will be the truth. New music except rap, new music, it helps if you’re 18 or 19, it helps if you’re good-looking, it helps if you’re talented, it’s difficult — almost impossible — to get a new band to become world famous if you’re over 30.” You can view the video where Simmons states those words via Nasty Ratz‘s YouTube page.
Widow responded with the following statement after the Money Bags Soda event: “No matter what Gene says, he will always be my hero. He’s simply explaining the statistics. We have broken barriers many times before, and we will do it again with our next record. We have an excellent producer (Martin Sweet of Crashdïet), who also played guitar and sang on several tracks. Additionally, we have Swan Hellion (BlackRain) and Martin Čupka (John Wolfhooker) contributing their talents. Most importantly, we have kick ass music that blows my mind every day.”
