Facebook Could Now Ban Band Accounts for Livestreaming

As of October 1, Facebook is taking steps to restrict the ability of bands and musicians to promote videos that “create a music listening experience for themselves or others”. This also applies to Facebook Live, which is a particularly popular way to broadcast live concerts during the pandemic period.

The language is quite ambiguous about what constitutes a “listening experience for oneself or others” as compared to videos, which are likely to include a wide range of musical entertainment contributions. The rule says that it is because “we want you to enjoy videos posted by your family and friends”, as the social media platform increasingly emphasizes these values.

This also applies to Facebook Live, which is a particularly popular way to broadcast live concerts during the pandemic period.
