Exclusive Interview with BankrollShell Interview

Today we had an exclusive chance to interview BankrollShell:

What is your legal name?
Shelton Robert Jackson III

What is your stage name and how did you come up with it?
BankrollShell is my stage name. I adapted it from another artist that passed away. His music was inspiring.

Why did you first start making music?
Music became an outlet for me early in my life. It was a way of digression, detoxing, and cleansing things I had begun internalizing.

Talk me through your creative process.
My creative process starts with me unwinding, getting in a quiet place where I can gather my thoughts, gather myself, and just dive into my zone. As soon as I’m there, I put pen to paper and the journey begins.

Have you heard the theory that some musicians write their best music while they’re depressed or going through a bad time?
I’ve heard this but I chose a different route. I pull from what has been so that I can reflect on the outcome. I always aim to provide the full story, beginning to end, regardless of what the outcome is. I never want to leave my supporters on cliffhangers. I aim to provide a true story with an outcome.

How would you describe the music that you typically create?
It’s all in my truths of delivering my story. I have to feel it first in order to deliver it with such passion that you have no choice but to vibe to it.

What’s the best compliment you’ve ever received about your music?
That’s fire! Somebody once told me that it felt like I’d lived their lives because my music spoke volumes to what they had been through.

What’s your latest release?
My latest release is “Better Off”.

If you could go open a show for any artist who would it be?

Right now if I had a choice to open a show, it would be for Da Baby.

What do you want your legacy to be? How do you want to be remembered?
When people think back on the legacy of BankrollShell, I’d like them to remember I held nothing back. I set out to share my journey in hopes of touching lives, inspiring lives and encouraging the generation to come that we were here leaving footprints in the sand and blueprints on the table for them to follow, hopefully guiding them to do greater things that would become historical for the generations to come.
