When Darius Rucker was asked what he enjoys most about celebrating Thanksgiving, he shared the honest truth. His response reflects what the majority of people think about as the day approaches.
“My favorite part of Thanksgiving is easy – it’s food. It’s eating. It’s hanging out with family and getting some great food.”
While the delicious meal is definitely a highlight of the day, Rucker also made note of the true meaning behind the holiday.
“Thanksgiving is about giving thanks for all of the great things you’ve got, and I always give thanks for the greatest thing I’ve got and that’s my family,” he said during an interview with his record label.
Of course, Thanksgiving would not be not complete without the traditional football games that come before the feast, another portion of the day that Rucker is looking forward to.
“Thanksgiving Day is my favorite sports day of the year. It’s crazy how much football you get to watch on Thanksgiving Day,” he said laughing. “So I really like that a lot. Thanksgiving is big for me.”
Rucker may be eagerly awaiting the food, sports and family time, but his fans have something else on their minds for the coming months – his new album planned for 2023.
The “Alright” singer recently shared that the meaningful cover image for his next project is a portrait of his late mother Carolyn, whom he honors in this album.
“I wanted to name the record Carolyn’s Boy because Mom never got to see any of my success,” Rucker explained. “She died before any of this happened, so it’s just another homage to the greatest woman I’ve ever known.”
When asked why now is the right time to share a project in his mom’s honor, Rucker said, “years ago, I wasn’t really sure what my place in Country music was and I was trying to find it. Now I have found it – I know – and I think it’s time to give that record.”
Fans can already get a bit of insight on what they can expect from the upcoming project through Rucker’s recent releases, “Same Beer Different Problem” and “Ol’ Church Hymn” which features America’s Got Talent finalists, Chapel Hart.
He revealed this information during an interview with “TODAY” Anchor Craig Melvin, after he was honored for a milestone feat in his career. It was recently announced that Rucker’s 11x platinum hit, “Wagon Wheel” has been named the fourth country song to ever be certified Diamond by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA).
The three-time Grammy winner celebrated this accomplishment alongside friends and peers during a ceremony on October 26. UMG Nashville presented Rucker with a plaque during the event held at The Electric Jane in Nashville. He was honored for achieving a diamond certification, which signifies that the song or project has sold over 10,000,000 units.
The country star’s hit, “Wagon Wheel,” was co-penned by Bob Dylan and Ketch Secor and is featured on his 2013 album, True Believers. It now serves as one of only four songs to be certified diamond, joining Florida Georgia Line’s “Cruise,” Chris Stapleton’s “Tennessee Whiskey,” and Lil Nas X and Billy Ray Cyrus’ “Old Town Road.”
In addition to celebrating the success of “Wagon Wheel,” Rucker earned recognition for his song, “Beers And Sunshine,” which marks his 10th No. 1 single. He co-penned this summer anthem with Ross Copperman, J.T. Harding and Josh Osborne, and watched it climb to the top of the charts in early 2021.
“Thank you guys so much for the life you’ve given me,” Rucker shared, thanking the Country music community. “My life is so much better because I came to Nashville.”
Darius Rucker’s next performance is set to take place in the new year on February 17 in Raleigh, NC.
