Classic Concert of the Day: Corrosion of Conformity at The Abyss in Houston, Texas on Nov. 17, 1994

This past Thursday, Corrosion of Conformity headed out on the road for a 14-date string of shows in a bid to bring their special brand of swagger and groovy riffs to the masses. Along with Spirit Adrift and The Native Howl in tow, it’s certain to be a bill that you don’t want to miss if you can make it to one of the gigs. Corrosion of Conformity always put on a good show. And while it’s going to be awesome to see the guys again, it’s never been a better time to reacquaint yourself with Corrosion of Conformity.

So that’s why for this week’s Classic Concert of the Day, we travel back to a time when the band was beginning to gain some steam thanks to the release of Deliverance. Songs like “Clean My Wounds” and “Albatross” were radio hits, powered by Woody and Pepper’s killer riffs, Mike’s groovy bass lines, and Reed’s unique rhythm style behind the kit.

As you’ll see in the show below, the four-piece were firing on all cylinders. By November 1994, they were almost two years removed from former vocalist Karl Agell leaving the band and Pepper taking the position full-time. The guys were jamming on their new shit, but as you’ll hear, they were still playing stuff off Blind that wasn’t “Vote with a Bullet.” It’s so strange to hear Pepper sing songs like “Painted Smiling Face” and “Echoes in the Well.” Oh and at one point, Pepper riffs on the Down classic “Lifer,” even though NOLA had not yet come out, which is a cool little nod to his involvement in the group.

So chill out and let Corrosion of Conformity rock your Sunday afternoon with this week’s classic concert.
