Debut Album

The Band Perry was formed after Kimberly Perry began performing in a band and Reid and Neil served as her roadies. They began performing together and were eventually discovered by Bob Doyle, Garth Brooks’ manager. Doyle helped the trio get their music to Scott Borchetta, who was the head of the new Nashville-based label, Republic Nashville.

Ultimately, the group signed with Borchetta and burst onto the country music scene in 2009 with their debut single, “Hip To My Heart.” The breakout track landed in the Top 20 at country radio and paved the way for the trio to release “If I Die Young.”

Penned solely by Kimberly Perry, “If I Die Young” became The Band Perry’s most successful song. It was released on June 8, 2010, and went on to claim the No.1 spot at country radio. It was nominated for a slew of awards, including Best Country Song at the 53rd GRAMMY Awards, Single of the Year and Song of the Year at the 2011 Academy of Country Music Awards, and won Single of the Year and Song of the at the 2011 CMA Awards. The song is now certified 7x platinum by the RIAA.

“We really have gotten to live and love at our young ages. ‘If I Die Young,’ for us, is about, if it all ends at this moment, look at what we’ve gotten to do. Whatever time we’re given will be absolutely enough, as long as we make the most of it,” Kimberly previously explained to The Boot about the song. “We’ve had people writing in and telling us about what this song means to them. People are finding a lot of life through this song. That’s the spirit that we wrote it out of. That makes us so excited.”

Following the success of “If I Die Young,” The Band Perry released “You Lie,” “All Your Life,” and “Postcard From Paris” as singles off their debut album.

“Pioneer”

In 2012, The Band Perry began a new musical chapter with the release of “Better Dig Two.” The song showcased a darker, more ominous side of the band and was well-received by fans. It reached the top of the charts and gave The Band Perry a great start to their second album, Pioneer

Released on April 2, 2013, Pioneer featured nine tracks co-written by The Band Perry. The album includes other hit singles such as “Done,” Don’t Let Me Be Lonely” and “Chainsaw.”

The following year, The Band Perry earned critical praise with their cover of Glen Campbell’s “Gentle On My Mind.” The song was recorded as part of the 2014 documentary, Glen Campbell: I’ll Be Me.

In 2015, The Band Perry released the song “Live Forever.” The song would ultimately become the trio’s last single as part of The Big Machine Label Group. In 2016, The Band Perry parted ways with the label and Billboard later announced that the group was now signed with Interscope Records.

This was a pivotal moment in their career as they now planned to pursue a career in pop music in addition to the country format. They also planned to release singles to country radio via Universal Nashville.

They released the song “Comeback Kid” in 2016 and followed it with “Stay in the Dark” and “The Good Life.” These songs did not land within the Top 40.
