The Grammy nominations for 2023 just dropped, and the dance/electronic categories have familiar names alongside some surprises as well.

While Beyoncé’s RENAISSANCE was nominated for Album of the Year, it was also nominated for Best Dance/Electronic Music Album, a diversion from her usual categorization as an R&B or pop artist.

The album features dance producers Green Velvet and Honey Dijon on several tracks marking a stepping stone for their careers and a win for the classic dance music influence in the mainstream music scene.

The Best Dance/Electronic Recording category nominated Bonobo, Diplo and Miguel, David Guetta and Bebe Rexha, KAYTRANADA and H.E.R, and RÜFÜS DU SOL. Surprisingly, Beyoncé’s “Break My Soul” was also nominated in this category as well as the Song of the Year category, cementing dance music as a force in pop culture.

Most of these artists followed up their Best Dance/Electronic Recording nominations with Best Dance/ Electronic Music Album nominations. Beyoncé, Bonobo, Diplo, and RÜFÜS DU SOL are all included in both.  ODESZA is one artist that’s only on the album list for their recent LP, The Last Goodbye.

Lastly in the electronic sphere, the Best Remixed Recording category nominated Purple Disco Machine, Terry Hunter, Four Tet, Paul Woolford, and Soulwax.

The top awards for Song of the Year, Record of the Year, and Album of the Year are dominated by chart-topping artists like Beyoncé, Harry Styles, Adele, and Kendrick Lamar.
